Paul de Kort responds to the Autumn Budget

Responding to the Budget statement today (28th October), Paul de Kort, Liberal Democrat Leader of St Albans District Council, said:

"I have made it a priority to ensure we build the homes our community desperately needs and can afford. This would end the injustice of local families being forced to live in temporary accommodation without a home to call their own.

“This Budget appears to add only limited additional funding for the affordable and social housing that is required. Councils need to have the power to ensure they are actually delivered. This means being given more control of the building process. The Government appears to have ducked the opportunity to give councils extra funding powers in order to build or acquire new homes. Should they reconsider this in the months ahead, we Lib Dems stand ready to accelerate the work we have done locally to tackle the housing crisis and deliver the homes local people need."
