How Liberals Can Take the Fight to the Populists on Climate Change

Join us for a timely and thought-provoking panel discussion, “How Liberals Can Take the Fight to the Populists on Climate Change,” featuring Elliot Chapman-Jones, Director of Liberals and Democrats for Nature and Climate, and local Lib Dem councillors and sustainable business champions.

As climate misinformation and populist narratives continue to distort public debate, this event will explore how liberals can lead with honesty, optimism, and evidence to reframe the climate conversation.

Drawing on fresh polling data, Elliot Chapman-Jones will reveal key insights into what the British public really thinks about climate change — and how this often contrasts sharply with the divisive messages spread by populist movements.

Sean Hughes, Owner of Dylan’s in St Albans, and councillors Jacqui Taylor and Keith Cotton will then reflect on how liberal values of fairness, community, and internationalism can form the foundation of community climate action in St Albans, challenge cynicism and inspire real action.

This event is a must for campaigners, policymakers, and anyone who wants to see liberals reclaim the narrative and build public trust in climate leadership.

Event line-up:

Join us and our guest speaker, TV writer Emma Kennedy, for an evening of political satire, jokes and belly-aching humour!

Emma is a British author, TV writer, actress, and presenter, known for her role in the award-winning comedy Goodness Gracious Me, winning Celebrity MasterChef in 2012, and her appearances in shows like People Like Us and Miranda.

She has been a member of the Liberal Democrats since 2010, was fiercely anti-Brexit, and is now a Surrey Parish Councillor.

Not for the faint-hearted, she has very rude jokes about Michael Gove!

Our friends at Veer Dhara have given us exclusive use of the venue to enjoy a welcome drink, a 5-course banquet, and unlimited soft drinks throughout the evening.  We'll have our wonderful Lib Dem auction and raffle, and if time allows, post-dinner dancing.

It’s going to be a night of food, fun, friendship and fundraising.

Please come and enjoy the evening!
