The bottom photo is a selfie taken by MP Victoria Collins, who is surrounded by a group of people. One man standing to her left (Paul de Kort) is holding up some Liberal Democrat leaflets.

Paul de Kort, Leader of St Albans District Council, said:

“We are incredibly humbled by the number of people who voted for us and our candidates.

“We Liberal Democrats are also delighted to retain control of SADC.

“This is testament to our strong track record of action: investing in community facilities and social housing, protecting the services that matter most to residents whilst balancing the books and setting out an exciting set of projects to complete before the district council is subsumed by a larger unitary council.

“It’s also a clear message from people across the St Albans district that they reject parties that trade in fear, division and hate.

“Sustained cuts to local government - both under the Conservatives and Labour - have made our council achievements so much harder, but we have been determined to deliver for our residents.

“Across the county, support for the two old parties is collapsing. It’s clear that in our area, only the Liberal Democrats can take the fight to Reform UK and deliver the change our area needs."
