Lib Dem councillors talk nature at SustFest event

Moderated by Sandringham & Wheathampstead councillor Lynn Cunningham, the panel was made up of MP Daisy Cooper, Hill End councillor and former chair of the council’s Climate Advisory Committee Jamie Day, and newly elected councillors for St Stephen and Bernards Heath Vlad Jirasek and Mangala Patil Mead. 

Topics discussed included incorporating nature corridors into St Albans, the importance of insulating newly built and social housing and protecting local chalk streams. Daisy Cooper spoke about being Vice Chair of the APPG for Climate, and the importance of supporting farmers.

Following the event, Daisy said: 

"I'm proud to say that here in St Albans, we already have a fantastic track record of caring for the environment and nature - we're the number one district for recycling in the country, and our Lib Dem council was quick to declare a climate emergency in 2019.

"Last week's panel discussion on keeping nature at the heart of local government showed that it's a key priority for both our long-standing and our newer councillors, and that they're keen to engage with local residents in their wards about preserving our natural environment."
