Conviction of Cllr Brazier - St Albans Lib Dem response

23 Jul 2026

Cllr Brazier has been found guilty of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Cllr Brazier received a fine of £299 and an 18 month ban ending 20th January 2028. He pleaded guilty.

Responding to the court’s sentence, Lib Dem group leader Paul de Kort said:

“As a party, we absolutely condemn drink-driving and the dangers it poses to road users. Colney Heath is a small village with young families, a primary school and older residents who already fear reckless driving on their roads.

“On learning of the arrest, the party whip and membership were suspended immediately. I understand that Cllr Brazier has resigned from the party and is now reflecting on whether to resign as a councillor.

“We believe his position is untenable.

“We are clear that we stand with the villagers of Colney Heath in saying that drink driving is never acceptable.”
