Syed Abidi has lived in Park Street with his wife for over 27 years and was a popular and effective local District Councillor from 1996 to 1999, before his job in the Civil Service became too senior to allow him to continue.
Having now taken early retirement from the Diplomatic Service, including serving time in the Prime Minister’s office, he is now free to take up local politics again.
As well as his concerns regarding the future of the proposed freight terminal site, support for local shops and businesses and the general incompetence of the County Council regarding road repairs, he has particular expertise and experience in scrutiny, audit, policy development and parliamentary affairs. Health matters are also high on Syed’s concerns; he is a member of the British Heart Foundation and the Hertfordshire Partnership of the University NHS Foundation Trust.
Syed said “After the rigours of international diplomacy, I am looking forward to going back to working with the PSRA and friends in the local Liberal Democrats to try to make a real difference to the lives of local residents again”.
