Thank you to everyone who voted Liberal Democrat yesterday. The Liberal Democrats won overall control of St Albans council.  We did particularly well within the boundaries of the St Albans parliamentary constituency. There we held all the seven council wards which we were defending.  And we gained three more - Batchwood and Sopwell from Labour and Verulam from the Conservatives.

Labour lost all the seats which they were defending. It must be the worst result locally for them in modern times.  With the Liberal Democrats winning ten out of twelve contests in the St Albans parliamentary constituency, it is clearly now a two horse race between the Lib Dems and the Conservatives, with the Liberal Democrats winning the popular vote over the Conservatives in every set of local elections since 2005. Interestingly David Cameron's flying visit to Marshalswick does seem to have galvanised local voters.  The two Marshalswick wards had substantial Liberal Democrat majorities. Ho hum...
