Your Sopwell Lib Dem candidates for the May 2022 St Albans district council elections are Muki Gorar, Emma Matanle and Sarwar Shamsher.
Muki Gorar is a law lecturer, and a long-term resident of Sopwell. She lives with her husband and their two children, who attend local schools. She is passionate about education, justice and equality. She is standing to be a councillor because she wants to represent the best interests of the ward and act as a bridge between the Council and local residents.
District councillor Emma Matanle has lived in St Albans for the last 25 years and raised her family here. Over the years, Emma has volunteered with the local Scout group, allotment association and school PTA organisations. With strong interests in climate change and education,she is the chair and co-founder of the Fair Funding for All Schools Campaign in St Albans. Emma works with the Local Government Information Unit
District Councillor Sarwar Shamsher is a full-time maths teacher,who lives in Sopwell with his wife and five daughters. Since his election, he has been solving problems such as overgrown verges, fly-tipping, and parking issues. He secured funding to provide better sports facilities for people from minority ethnic backgrounds. He has a long record of volunteering, including serving as a governor of Mandeville Primary.
