St Albans Liberal Democrat councillors in Batchwood have spoken about their successful efforts to upgrade the facilities at a park in their ward.
Oysterfields Park now benefits from a resurfaced playground, new play equipment, renovated play equipment, and fixed path lights.
Costing £10,000, the park improvements were funded from Batchwood councillors Sinéad Howland and Liz Needham’s ward budget.
Councillor Liz Needham said: “Batchwood is home to a lot of young families, and having good-quality, modern parks like this in the local area is vital to their health and wellbeing. Already, we’ve seen many more children using and enjoying the upgraded park.
“Providing and improving on community facilities is one of the Liberal Democrat administration’s main priorities, so I’m proud that we were able to deliver on this.”
Councillor Sinéad Howland added: “As well as allowing families and children to visit the park after school in these dark winter-time days, the lights add much-needed night-time lighting to the area in general.
“We know that street lighting is an important issue for many residents in St Albans as it came up recently at a Women’s’ Street Safety public meeting, which many of our councillors attended and spoke at. Lighting like this will help make the area feel safer at night.
“We’ll be continuing to keep an eye on the park to ensure everything remains up to scratch, as well as doing our regular litter-picks to keep it in tip-top condition.”
