Honouring the covenant

I have just signed the on-line petition on the Royal British Legion website calling on the Government to honour the implicit covenant with members of the armed forces that they and their families will be properly looked after in terms of housing, medical care and pensions in view of the risks they undergo on behalf of us all.

I come from a service family.  My father was a regular soldier.  Both his brothers flew in the Second World War and one was killed while flying back from an operation.  Another uncle was killed in North Africa.  Other members of my family served - and some died - in the First World War.

The recent announcements about money for the worst housing will barely touch the surface.  Military housing is almost all dire after it was flogged off by the Tories for an average £15 thousand per unit.
