CALL TO UNITE IN LATEST BATTLE AGAINST THE FREIGHT TERMINAL11.13.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 18th May 2009 Now that the District Council has received the legal advice that it must assess and determine the new freight terminal planning application, Sandy Walkington, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for St Albans, is calling on all parties to continue to put aside political differences and campaign on a united front against the proposal. "The threat of this monstrous development is like a knife in the underbelly of St Albans", Sandy said. "Nothing is improved or changed in this application. It would destroy Park Street, clog up our already congested roads, and wipe out the crucial green space that defines St Albans as a separate place. It is vitally important that the whole community stands firm in its opposition. "I am already in contact with STRiFE offering any assistance that the local Liberal Democrats can give. I have also written to both Anne Main and Roma Mills to ask that we stand together on this matter. Local residents deserve nothing less in the fight to protect our Green Belt and the historical integrity of St Albans and its surrounding communities."
