The St Albans Liberal Democrats are hosting a celebration of LGBT+ History month at the Peacock on Tuesday 20 February.
The night will open with talks given by our fantastic guest speakers and will be followed by a group discussion.
A little about our speakers:
Adrian Hyyrylainen-Trett is a prominent Lib Dem diversity & inclusion campaigner and has worked in the LGBT+ sector, championing same sex marriage and campaigning for fully inclusive sex and relationship education in schools, as a way to prevent bullying, mental health issues, and suicide rates amongst young people. Adrian is currently working in the House of Lords as the Equalities Research Advisor to the Liberal Democrat Equalities spokesperson, which has broadened his knowledge and understanding around BAME, Gender, and Disability issues, in addition to his continued activism on behalf of the LGBT+ community.
Adrian has chaired LGBT+ Liberal Democrats on two occasions and now chairs the Diversity Sub-Committee for the Liberal Democrat Party, under the auspices of the Federal Development and People Committee. He also Chaired the Pride in London Community Advisory Board for two years which scrutinises the work and organisation of Pride, and works closely with the Metropolitan Police in a specialist advisory capacity. He speak Italian and French, and has global experience from working with legal and financial services in the City, as well as the Alliance of Liberal Democrats in Europe (ALDE). His international contacts and network, were further developed as a former member of the Liberal International Human Rights Committee, and as a current co-opted member of the Federal International Relations Committee.
Clive Duffey is the HIV support Lead and Men’s sexual health worker for Herts Aid (Hertfordshire HIV & Sexual Health support charity) and actively works with the LGBTQ+ population of Hertfordshire to improve their sexual health and uptake of testing, improve social inclusion and expanding opportunities to ensure the community are represented in the county.
In his spare time Clive is Founder Director of Herts Pride and Director of Hertfordshire LGBTQ Health & Wellbeing CIC. In addition he is a (KIN) Key independent network advisor to Hertfordshire Constabulary.
Clive also manages several social media sites for the Hertfordshire LGBTQ community and is the only honouree member of the Herts Lesbian Community face book group.
