I have lived in Marshalswick, since 1998 with my wife and daughter; previously we lived in the centre of St Albans. I moved to St Albans in 1989 and was Chair of the constituency party for several years in the 1990s. I have been an active campaigner, canvassing and delivering Focus newsletters across St Albans and elsewhere, for over 30 years.
I am a Liberal Democrat because I believe in a fair, free and open society where there is a balance between the values of liberty, equality and community. Those values are important to me and I believe we need a strong Liberal Democrat party to promote a society that is open, tolerant and united.
Since 2007, I have been a Sandridge Parish Councillor and was Chair of the Council from 2011 to 2015. Currently, I am the Chair of the Finance, Localism and Human Resources Committees. As Chair of the Localism Committee I am leading the production of a Neighbourhood Plan for Sandridge Parish, which, once approved, will form part of the rules governing planning decisions in Marshalswick North, where I live, and Jersey Farm.
As a Parish Councillor, I am involved with campaigns to reduce the level of aircraft noise over the area and the proposed development at Symondshyde. I have also worked with our local Liberal Democrat District and County Councillors to oppose inappropriate local development.
When elected to the County Council, I will work closely with our Parish and District Councillors and our Parliamentary candidates to promote the Liberal Democrats across the division.
